She’s Despairing & Doubting Because Her Family Are Kafir
The Context
A revert sister made a post about her feelings when she thought about her non-Muslim family, and how upsetting it was that they wouldn’t go to Jannah.
The Response
Guidance Is Up To Allah Alone
Firstly, we must say with all the love in the world: it is not for you to say that your family will never be guided to the truth. Even RasoolAllah (ﷺ) was not allowed to make a statement like that without revelation having come down to him concerning the matter.
Upon you is to continually make du’a for your family’s guidance. Never stop. Just because they don’t believe right now doesn’t mean they will never believe. Allah is the best of planners.
I’ve heard Dr. Bilal Philips mention that he gave da’wah to his parents for 20 years before they accepted Islam! And let’s not forget the Prophet Nûh (alayhisalaam) gave dawah to his people for 950 years! It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
May Allah guide your family and bless you with their righteous company in this life and the next. Ameen.
Truth Doesn’t Change
While this is indeed a huge calamity and trial you’re going through, it is also a moment for you to hear some hard truths, the first of which is: it being hard for you or on you does not change the truth in any way.
Meaning, if you leave Islam, it will not make Islam stop being the truth. It will not mean you won’t be questioned in your grave. It will not mean the Day of Judgement will not take place. Those things will still come to pass, you will just be on the wrong side of the aisle. Death is ever a stark reminder.
"He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself And mentions the name of his Lord and prays. But you prefer the worldly life, While the Hereafter is better and more enduring."
—Qur’an (al-A’la) 87:14-17
"And this worldly life is not but diversion and amusement. And indeed, the home of the Hereafter—that is the [eternal] life, if only they knew."
—Qur’an (al-‘Ankabut) 29:64
As to the struggle, it’s part of the story. I’m sure you know already but this entire world is an exam. Jannah is prime real estate, not just anybody can walk in. This world is where we are forged into people worthy (by the Grace and Mercy of Allah) of that gift.
"We have certainly created man into hardship."
—Qur’an (al-Balad) 90:4
If we expect this life to be easy, we’re gonna have a bad time. Ease is for later. The hustle is for now.
May Allah make it easy for you and make you steadfast. Ameen.
